Ada Schools Guidance Dept

Dear Parents and Students in Grades 6-11,

College Credit Plus options available for 2026-27 will be discussed on Monday, February 23, 2026 at a meeting in the auditorium. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. This is a required meeting to participate in CCP for the first year. If this is not convenient, students may request the paperwork after the meeting has been held and watch the required video.

College Credit Plus mandated by House Bill 487 (ORC Chapt 3365) allows college-ready high school and junior high students who qualify for college admission to enroll full or part-time in college courses. Students may enroll in nonsectarian and nonremedial courses during the school day or in the evening. For courses taken at a public institution toward high school graduation, the cost of tuition, books, and fees will be paid by the high school, but then the grade earned will also affect the student's GPA. Students earning credit from a private institution may incur some costs. Students failing courses will be responsible for all costs incurred.

In considering this option for next year, students must evaluate academic records and career goals. Eligibility requirements are determined by the college/university. (For some colleges/universities, students will need to take the ACT or SAT to determine eligibility for certain courses.)

College Readiness is determined by the following:

  • ACT English Sub Score 18

  • ACT Reading Sub Score 22

  • ACT Mathematics Sub Score 22

Note for all juniors: State law requires districts to administer the state-funded ACT to all grade 1 1 students in the spring of the school year. As a result, juniors will be taking the ACT at Ada High School on Tuesday, March 17th, at no cost. We will also offer the ACT to 10th graders who choose to sign up and pay to take the test at school on Tuesday, March 24th.

The upcoming national ACT dates are: April 11th with a regular registration deadline of March 6th and June 13th with a regular registration deadline of May 8th. The cost is $68.00 without writing. You can register at www.act.org.

Students accepted in College Credit Plus must consider credit requirements for high school graduation, consequences of failing, financial responsibilities, scheduling, travel time, athletic eligibility and other factors affecting the success of the college experience.

April 1, 2026 is the date students and parents must submit a signed permission form confirming intent to attend college during the following academic year and acknowledging that counseling services stipulated by HB 487 were received. This does not obligate a student to participate and he/she may choose not to enroll by notifying the guidance office.

There are advantages and disadvantages involved in participating in College Credit Plus. To help students decide if this program meets their needs, explanatory materials will be distributed along with enrollment forms at the meeting or upon request. If you wish further information or forms, please call 419-634-2746 or email pratere@adabulldogs.org.

Sincerely,
